please-top-up

I thought the new Contactless ePurse Applications (CEPAS) compliant EZ-Link was almost the same as the previous (SONY?) card. I’m very wrong.

“Please Top Up”

With $1.48 of value inside my card, I didn’t know I would be prompted to top up my card and I wouldn’t be able to take the MRT. Oh well, I was able to get onto a bus few days back. Whatever.

I discovered that the new card requires you to have at least $3 inside your card to get on a MRT. Why? Because the $3 deposit from your previous card was deducted for the new card. That means you’re paying for their upgrades. (Correct me if I’m wrong)

New Features

  • You can (now/soon) pay for your meals, shop at 7-Eleven, Buy 4D/Toto/buy soccer bets, pay for government services, improve your own health, etc etc with your new card. Means you got no cash or if you maxed your credit cards, you can still do shopping provided your EZ-Link card got money.
  • Can pay ERP with this card? They’re making your life so good. If you forgotten to top up your cash card, you still can go through the gantry without getting fined.  (Am I right?)
  • You can now top-up your card at more places. (Ofcourse got charge you small fee at some places!) EZ-Online top up service. Let me review it when I’ve tried.
  • Higher e-Purse capacity. So you can now store up to $500 inside your card. This can be your next pre-paid current account!

Got Free Gift Somemore!

Wow. EZ-Link is offering you free 6 months insurance (Provided you’re not older than 81 and you’re at least 18! Click here to register. But after 6 months, we won’t know they’ll do (with ACE Insurance). Maybe bug you to get another policy at a fee?

Have you replaced?

This card so good, you haven’t replaced? From now till 30th September 2009, you can do a 1-for-1 exchange (at selected MRT stations/Post Office Branches/TransitLink Offices). Go replace it during working hours. Use your boss’ time, not your own. It’s ok to return back to office late sometimes. More info here.

Got something to share with me regarding the new EZ-Link card?

Jamaica’s Usain Bolt set the 100m world record on Saturday clocking 9.72sec, lowering the record of 9.74sec set by compatriot Asafa Powell (Yes, another Jamaican).

Hey James

When am I going to see you break another record? I’m waiting! By then, don’t forget this friend of yours ok.

Can I run?

Yes, I can run. But I can’t win awards for my speed.

getMediumSizePhoto Look into your wallet and check if you’ve got notes with "KF" imprinted on it. If you’ve got any, bring them down to where you withdrew them to exchange them for another piece. (Let’s say you forgot where you withdrew them, just bring them to any bank.)

Why are there such notes?

The notes are considered to be deliberately mutilated and they command no value. That means, your $50 can be $0 if you don’t have it exchanged.

According to MAS:

The letters "KF", which appear to be marking stamped onto the note, are not part of the design of the $50 note.
Notes with such marking are considered to be deliberate mutilation and they command no value.
We advise members of public who receive notes with the "KF" marking to bring them to the banks for one-for-one exchange.

You think it’s your right to park your car infront of your own house? Don’t think again - just pay the fine and you’ll be fine.

So there’s this case of a man living at Katong who thought that parking infront of his own house is his right. And he got two summons for parking infront of his own house. Appeals to the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) failed. Even the papers wrote “So why not just pay the fine?”

He turned it into a court case but again he lost the case. Instead of having the fines waived, he paid around $10, 000 fighting the case. Not to mention he had to take time off to meet his lawyer and to go to court for the trial! Is it worth the time and money?

My advise

Gahmen give you summon, you pay. Then you learn from your mistake and don’t do it again.

Don’t know what’s going on? Check things out then take actions. If you think you’re right, then go appeal. If it doesn’t work, just pay the fine.

If you didn’t watch the movie Just Follow Law, go get yourself a copy of the DVD. Jack Neo always teach the right things.

And remember, the government is always right. Your only right is to vote. Now, get back to work or you’ll lose your job and there’ll be no chance to appeal.

Opposition politician Chee Soon Juan will be jailed for 3 weeks after refusing to pay a $4000 fine slapped on him for violating the Bankruptcy Act.

felixker.com advises readers to just follow law! If not, you’ll end up being not able to read my blog. Jail has no Internet!
