Namewee (Negarakuku rapper) apologizes

PETALING JAYA: Student Wee Meng Chee, 24, who caused a furore here with his Negaraku (Negarakuku) rap video clip on YouTube, has apologised for the parody and will remove the video clip from his blog.

“It has taught me a lesson about the spirit of nationalism and race relations. As a Malaysian, I did not intend to shame the country or ridicule any religion.

That’s what I read on the papers today.

Case end. The rap is now history. I still like Negaraku, ku. It somehow taught me how to sing the national anthem of Malaysia! Cheers!

World’s oldest person dies at 114

THE world’s oldest person, a Japanese woman who counted eating well and getting rest as her hobbies, has died aged 114, a news report says.

Yone Minagawa, a widow who lived in a nursing home but was still sprightly late in life, died “of old age” yesterday, Kyodo News reported.

Just wondering, who’s the world’s oldest person now?

Negarakuku

According to news article on TheStar..

Deputy Internal Security Minister Datuk Mohd Johari Baharum said police would investigate the rap video while MCA Youth chief Datuk Liow Tiong Lai said Wee had insulted the national anthem.

“I’m simply reflecting the truth about our society through my music and I did not mean to offend anyone by producing such a video clip. I still love my country,” he (Wee Meng Chee) said.

- Agreed.

On his blog, Wee said he had removed the video from the website after receiving some negative reaction.

“I had to do it because my family was being pressured and I can’t be selfish by just thinking about myself,” he added.

- Support! Selfless teenager! Thumbs up.

His father, in an interview with Sin Chew Daily, defended his son’s patriotism as the student had insisted on taking along the Jalur Gemilang when he left for Taiwan to study.

- According to the video Namewee made, he said that students that graduated from Chinese Secondary (or High) Schools had problem entering local Universities. That’s why he went overseas. And he hopes to serve his country when he graduates.

Meanwhile, in Kuala Lumpur, Bernama reported that the police had no authority to investigate or detain individuals involved in broadcasting Wee’s Negaraku as it happened outside the country.

“The police can only take action if the incident occurs in the country,” Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Najib Abdul Aziz told reporters yesterday.

- We hope that’s the case.

Not all bloggers are stupid!

Ofcourse lah! I wouldn’t say that there’s any stupid bloggers around. Perhaps what’s meant was “Bloggers that don’t think before writing/thinking aloud!“.

Anyway, Who gives a damn about what’s said? I mean, “stupid” bloggers always have a message they would like to convey to others. Just that what the blogger would like to convey to public is politically unright wrong.

Let’s show an example:

“Mr Alibaba is a stupid and corruptive minister… Blah blah blah…” - John

Looking at our example here, John just criticised the minister BUT he was just expressing his own thoughts! And, that’s how he’s classified as being stupid!

There are (may be) laws in every country pertaining to freedom of speech. But, we’re (bloggers) on the Internet now. Aren’t we (bloggers) supposed to be given more freedom to be allowed to express ourselves?

Bloggers/Citizen Journalists, take a look at the Blue Ribbon Campaign. I’m unsure if it’s supported in your country (Singapore? Malaysia?), but do give it a try. Ha, identify yourself as someone from US? (Btw, I need to learn more about the law too!)

Malaysia: Information Minister Datuk Seri Zainuddin Maidin says not all bloggers are stupid as some of them are informative, knowledgeable and disseminate positive views on current issues.

Wordpress 2.2.2 & 2.0.11

Wordpress 2.2.2 and 2.0.11, both security-related releases are now available for download!

I just upgraded my Wordpress (2 days ago) and was kinda late for 2.2.1 although it’s an important security update. So lucky I wasn’t targetted by any hackers out there.

For those of you who do not know what Wordpress is, do a google and you’ll find out. Wordpress is one of the best blogging platform I’ve ever tried! And it’s free, unlike BlogHoster.
