The event ended and I sent RM$430 (approx US$120), according to World Vision (I totally forgot how much I donated until they told me). I’m looking forward to the next Gift Of Hope. Hopefully you’ll all support the event along with me.

I’m a sponsor for a child with World Vision since 2008. Quite proud of myself since I do not have much time for community service.

Speaking about this, sometime mid-March, I going to send in my orders for World Vision‘s Gift of Hope programme.

What’s Gift of Hope? How it works?

You’ll buy something for yourself or your loved ones and they’ll be sent to the needy over at the different countries depending on the item you bought.

What am I considering to send? (NOTE: 1.00 USD = 3.59790 MYR)

I don’t know how much funds I’ve got, but I’m considering the following items:

Education

• Children’s Workbooks (Sarawak, Malaysoa; RM$20)
• School Uniforms (Sarawak, Malaysia; RM$20)
• Library Books (Lebanon; RM$35 per set)

Community Development

• Seed Funds (Laos; RM$250 per set)

Agriculture

• Mushroom Spores (Thailand; RM$60 per set)
• Vegetable Seeds (Thailand; RM140 per 3kg bag of mixed seeds)
• Organic Fertilizer (Thailand; RM15 per 10kg bag)
• Farming tools (Thailand; RM130 per set of tools)

Recreation & Self-Development

• Educational Toys (Thailand; RM50 (minimum contribution))

I don’t believe in providing food actually since it doesn’t support them long-term. The gifts I listed above are the lower priced gifts that I can somehow afford, but still checking my budget and thinking which I should contribute.

Since I’m going to send in my own orders, you can donate along with me. I’ve got a donate button below for you to tag along. Exchange rates are be below too. You can specify what you’d like to contribute, provided you donated the right amount. If you’d like the gift card, I’m also able to mail it to you after I receive them.

For every $10 you donate, I’m going to donate an extra of at least $2 (Thats 20% additional!). I can’t promise much since I don’t know how much will come along. However, I don’t expect much to come from the public actually since my blog doesn’t get much readers and the recession has hit people badly.

How to donate?

Donate button is above. If you’ve got no Paypal, you can use a credit/debit card too. For a $10 donation, Paypal takes $0.59 off as transaction fees (I think). Please send at least $2 so at least when it reaches me, I’ll see something there.

I was ‘somehow’ a daddy at 19 coz I Sponsored a Child. Though not alot, I played my part to improve someone’s life.  You can do so too.  Contact me, we’ll see how I can share some information and advice with you.

I came across this news article whereby this boy became a father at 13. Isn’t it nice when you’re 14/15 and your child starts to call you daddy? Let’s do some maths:

At 20, his child enrolls into primary school.
At 26, his child has already completed primary school education and starts going to a secondary school.
By 31, if he’s got a smart/hard working child, the child would be at university.
Somewhere around 35, the child should be out in the society making his own money.
He can retire then. Or if he chooses to work on; it’s all up to him.

Life’s good, isn’t it?

I wish I was a father at probably 18. I want to retire early.

• Milk powder not cheap too!
• Your wife and child’s medical expenses?

Xiao Dong is not in school yet. He doesn’t help out with house chores as he’s too young.

Both parents are self-employed as farmers. According to statistics, farmers (in Yongsheng, North-West Yunnan) account for 93.7% of the population. The annual per capita income is RMB 608 (US$89 on 6 Nov 08) and per capita food consumption is 397kg.

I do not only want to sponsor a child. I would love to sponsor children. More and more!

Why am I doing this?

Who doesn’t want more money to spend? I would love to have more bags and more clothes but the thought of some kids that really need our help. I decided to start helping them, as much as I can.

Why am I telling you so much?

You may wonder what I do with the money I make from this blog. Not alot, but definitely enough for my hosting fees and to support a child.

As for my own living expenses, I’ve got my father to support me until I finish school.

Why World Vision?

The best thing I like about them: They “teach a child to fish, and not use my donated funds to them fishes“.

It’s been some time since I last wrote something here. Time flies but I totally cannot recall what I did in the past month. Maybe playing a MMPORG (Tibia), going for classes, spending time making my student pass and maybe sleeping. Ok, back to the topic.

I have advertisements above almost every entry on this blog and they’re making money for me every month. I may not receive a cheque every month, but its still sufficient for my hosting fees.

After giving some thought, I’ve decided to use part of my earnings to sponsor a child with World Vision. World Vision will help a child on my behalf. Wonderful, isn’t it?

When?

As soon as I receive my next cheque (should arrive somewhere early September), I will deposit it into my bank account and start doing something!

Future

As soon as I find myself earning more (receiving a bigger cheque amount) from my advertising partners (Currently Google Adsense and Advertlets), I will consider sponsoring more children.

Well, that’s what I foresee.
