Singapore Pools – Toto

Kensou was discussing with me about the special 10-million draw last night. Since we both didn’t buyu, we made a guess between ourselves. He had better luck. HAHAHAHA!

Results for 02 Mar 07  Draw No: 2201
Winning numbers: 5 6 16 17 28 35 & Additional number: 14

How much did you win?

Are you wondering how much Singapore Pools earn out of last night’s Toto?

Radio Channel Capital 95.8FM interviewed some people and they claimed to have bought up to $500 of toto for the draw last night. Others tried their luck with lesser amounts. What about those who bought more and were not interviewed? If everyone contributes to the pot, Singapore Pools surely made a lot last night.

Correct me if I’m wrong. After all, I did badly for my Additional Mathematics during secondary school (Was it the chapter Permutations and Combinations?).

Total possible combinations: 45 ! ÷ (39 ! × 6 !) = 8,145, 060

It’s close to impossible that for each combination, only 1 person buys. Let’s assume, on the average there’ll be 6 person buying the same set. Each set costs $0.50.

Basic Sales amount: 8,145,060 × 6 ÷ 2 = $24 435 180

System 7: 3.50 x 30000 = $105, 000
System 8: 14.00 x 8000 = $112, 000
System 9: 42.00 x 6000 = $252, 000
System 10: 105.00 x 4000 = $420, 000
System 11: 231.00 x 2000 = $462, 000
System 12: 462.00 x 1000 = $462, 000
System roll: 20 x 30000 = $600, 000

Total sales: 462 000 + 600 000 + 420 000 + 252 000 + 112 000 + 462 000 + 105 000 + 24 435 180 = $26 848 180

I took the trouble to calculate the payout too.

Payout :
Group 1: $5 256 818 * 2 = $10,513,636
Group 2: $35 238 * 84 = $2,959,992
Group 3: $1 225 * 2 417 = $2,960,825
Group 4: $491 * 6 037 = $2,964,167
Group 5: $30 * 115 072 = $3,452,160
Group 6: $20 * 143 688 = $2,873,760

Total payout: 10,513,636 + 2,959,992 + 2,960,825 + 2,964,167 + 3,452,160 + 2,873,760 = $ 25,724,540

Let’s now calculate Singapore Pools’ profit.

Profit: $26 848 180 – $ 25,724,540 = $1,123,640

Let’s calculate your winning possibilities:

Winning possibility: 1 / 8,145,060 = 1.22773804 × 10-7

Note: Winning result was extracted from Singapore Pools. The calculations are for fun only - Some figures are just an estimate. Do not take this article too seriously (I do not wish to be sued.)

there’s no way they wont earn. if 2 person strike first prize, both of them share the pot. imagine a profit without any capital. though i wonder where did the rest of the money go????
