Windows XP : (Re)-Install
Grrr! I reinstalled my Windows XP today. It’s 3.49pm and I’m not done with installing all my drivers yet. Basic drivers like wireless, video, audio and chipset are installed, leaving some unurgent ones namely bluetooth and infrared out first. (I’ll install when I need them!)
The fresh copy of Windows XP caused my grub boot-loader to go missing. I’ve got no idea how to make it re-appear, but its okay. I’ll just reinstall my Ubuntu 7.04 (Fiesty Fawn) another day.
I reformatted the Windows partition and thus losing ALL the softwares I had, previously. 7+ gigabytes of softwares gone, just in few minutes (quick format). I wonder when I will be able to get back all of them again. I’m now sourcing for a few softwares I will use daily such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, etc.
I need an anti-virus too. Can someone suggest a good one? If not, I’ll just stick with NOD32.
Time to update my windows via WindowsUpdate!

Ubuntu is one cd and 20 - 40mins for a comeplete install. amazing how long windows takes. OEM install disks loaded with junkware and are an even bigger pain. after the typical 2hour+ install and patch session i use a disk imaging program to shorten the next installl to mionutes when the image is on an external USB drive. Acronis trueimage is good. norton ghost also. - good luck
Partimage, DD, DDrescue are free open source and complex.
wish i could recommend them.
There are 2 good and free anti-virus software on the market.
One is Avast! which I personally use, and the other is AVG.

Hope this helps.
