There’s a hell load of people in this Internet community asking why is their torrent file downloading at such a slow speed despite having a 6mbps Internet. I’m writing this “How-To” entry to help you speed up your torrent downloads.
Before we actually start with configuring to speed up, there are several things you have to know.
- Internet speed. Don’t be confused by the speed you are connected from your LAN (Ethernet) port to your modem/router. That is NOT your Internet speed. Look at the package you subscribed with your Internet Service Provider (ISPs). You should be able to know the speed. Example will be: 5mbps download / 512kbps upload. (Note the ‘mbps’/'kbps’ – the ‘b’ in small letters actually means bits and not bytes.)
- Router? Are you using a router? If you are, you probably have to know the model of your router and forward the port correctly. [We'll be covering this at a later part]
- Firewall. Remember to allow the port that you’re going to set later on.
- Your favourite bittorrent client. There are so many programs released in the market. But which is your favourite? Choose your favourite and let’s go! (Note that I’m only showing screenshots for BitComet & uTorrent.)
- Seeds. The number of seeds that’s actually seeding the torrent; the more the merrier. If there are many torrents for a particular download you’re interested in, be sure you get the right one. [Refer to screenshot]

- I think that’s all you need to know to start speeding up. Fire your favourite torrent client and let’s go!
I must mention that downloading of copyrighted materials is illegal. Happy downloading!

good for me
so, what can i do with upload speed in uTorrent??
This guide is very detailed, thumbs up to the one who made this. Pretty sure he must have put in a lot of effort to compile this data. However, for those who hate browsing over multiple-part tutorial, here I found a more simplified version of the information explained above. http://www.speedypc.org/how-to-speed-up-torrent-downloads.html
basically, we just need to open more ports for utorrent downloads to speed up traffic. Torrents use ports 6881 to 6999. If port 6881 is blocked, it will knock on other ports and see if they’re open for use. Keeping these ports open can speed up downloads plus you also need to make sure that the firewall settings are not intefering with this open torrent port.

More trackers, more trackers mean more seeds and thus more speed. Go to http://torrents.iza.co.za/tracker_finder.php to find more trackers for any torrent. (A fault with the form there is that you can’t hit enter on your keyboard, you must click on the find button)
You can also calculate optimal settings that will speed up your client with their speed calculator at http://torrents.iza.co.za/speed_calc.php
There is also some other tips on speeding up your torrent as well as tutorials about creating torrents etc.
I get … 600 kB in and out on a good day (but I usually cap it so it’s more like 50)
So, i think that using of VPN is better.
Torrents aren’t as safe as they used to be. I’ve hear lots of people recently are getting caught downloading popular movies.
